Washington, D.C, 23 May 2011 - In what could possibly be the worst funding crisis WIC – the nation’s premier public health nutrition program serving low-income mothers and young children to age 5 – has faced in more than a decade and a half, the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee is set to mark up fiscal year 2012 funding legislation Tuesday that will force thousands of women and young children to be cut off the Program eliminating access to critical nutritious foods, nutrition services and referrals to health care and social services.
