SNAP-ED and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
Harmful changes to the nutrition education component of SNAP and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program are expected to occur as a Farm Bill heads to the Senate floor for debate:

  • Reduced or eliminated funding for SNAP-Ed, the nutrition education component of SNAP.
  • An amendment to eliminate “fresh” from the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, compromising access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income children.

Prevention Fund and Medicare doc fix

There have been rumors that the Prevention and Public Health Fund is likely to be used to offset the Medicare "doc fix" in the extenders package. However, the deal is not yet done and it is still possible that we can at least lessen the size of the rumored cut (currently rumored at $5 billion over 10 years).
